The Honorable Biden President of the United States of America The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20500 Dear Mr. President, I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. WE write to you today as a concerned youth and citizens, deeply troubled by the environmental challenges our nation and the world face. It is our firm belief that urgent action is needed to address the pressing issues of plastic pollution, environmental sustainability, and climate change. As the leader of the free world, we implore you to take bold steps to reduce plastic use, improve environmental sustainability, and combat climate change for the sake of our future generations. Plastic pollution has become an increasingly dire threat to our planet. Our oceans are suffocating under the weight of plastic waste, endangering marine life and disrupting entire ecosystems. Plastic debris not only harms marine animals through ingestion and entanglement but also infiltrates our food chain, posing risks to human health. To combat this crisis, we need to prioritize the reduction of plastic use by promoting alternatives and implementing stricter regulations on production, consumption, and disposal. Furthermore, improving environmental sustainability should be at the core of our national agenda. Our current patterns of resource extraction, consumption, and waste management are unsustainable, depleting natural resources and exacerbating environmental degradation. We must shift towards a circular economy that reduces waste generation, promotes recycling and reuse, and fosters innovation in sustainable technologies. By doing so, we can protect our environment, create green jobs, and ensure a more prosperous future for our nation. However, the most pressing and global concern of our time is undoubtedly climate change. The consequences of rising global temperatures are already being felt across the world, with extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and disruptions in agriculture and ecosystems becoming increasingly common. It is imperative that the United States takes a leading role in combating climate change by transitioning towards a low-carbon economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve this, we must invest heavily in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power. By providing incentives and subsidies for renewable energy production, we can stimulate innovation, create jobs, and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, we should implement stricter regulations on carbon emissions and support international agreements aimed at limiting global warming, such as the Paris Agreement. By doing so, we can demonstrate our commitment to fighting climate change and inspire other nations to follow suit. Moreover, education and awareness play a vital role in achieving long-term sustainability goals. Therefore, I urge you to prioritize environmental education in schools and colleges, ensuring that future generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about sustainable living. By fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, we can inspire individuals, businesses, and communities to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a healthier planet. In conclusion, Mr. President, the challenges of plastic pollution, environmental sustainability, and climate change require immediate attention and concerted efforts. As the leader of the United States of America, your actions can have a profound impact on the global fight against these crises. By reducing plastic use, improving environmental sustainability, and combating climate change, we can safeguard the well-being of our planet and future generations. We implore you to take bold and decisive action, for the sake of our environment, our economy, and our shared future. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. Yours sincerely, Aric, Dylan and Mick Nagra
